How do I apply for a position?

All of our available positions are listed on our website at www.valleyhealthcareers.com. Towards the bottom of each job description you will find an Apply button. You must complete an online application in order to be considered for employment.

How many positions can I apply for at any given time?

You may apply for up to six positions within a 30-day timeframe. Please select the positions that you are applying for very carefully. Please review each job’s details to ensure you are applying for the position(s) that you are most interested in and qualified for.

On the job search section of the careers website, I see that there is an option to select an organization. What are the differences between the three options listed: The Valley Hospital, Valley Medical Group, and Valley Home Care?

Valley Health System is comprised of System employees as well as three entities: The Valley Hospital, Valley Medical Group and Valley Home Care.  Employees in each of the entities provide quality care to patients in various unique settings throughout the community. Whether it is in the hospital, physician practice, or home settings, the mission of Valley Health System is to provide healthcare services that meet the changing needs of the region and to promote all aspects of good health in our communities. Valley Health System (VHS) comprises the business service departments that have been defined less by their individual entity and more by their collaborative work across our entire System.  The employees in these departments support all the entities and include Administration, Employee Health, Financial Administration, Human Resources, Information Systems, Legal Services, Risk Management and Compliance, Marketing & Communications, Payroll, Planning and Government Relations, Population Health, Purchasing, Talent Development & Telecommunications.

The Valley Hospital (TVH) is a 451-bed, fully accredited, acute-care, not-for-profit hospital serving more than 440,000 people in 32 towns in Bergen County and adjoining communities. The hospital’s mission is to deliver high-quality, cost-efficient healthcare through the efforts of its greatest asset—the more than 800 physicians, 3,000 employees and 3,700 volunteers who constitute The Valley Hospital.

Valley Home Care (VHC) offers a full spectrum of services to meet a variety of healthcare needs to patients in their homes. All home health care plans are under the direction of the patient’ss physician who is intimately involved in all aspects of the care and works closely with the staff.  VHCs healthcare professionals provide complex and highly skilled care to patients of every type of diagnosis.

Valley Medical Group (VMG) comprises physicians practicing in a wide variety of specialties at Valley locations and in community-based practices. VMG brings together Valley-employed physicians based at the hospital, the Luckow Pavilion, other outpatient facilities, our seven primary and urgent care centers, and medical practices throughout the community. The vision of VMG is to create a large interdisciplinary group practice dedicated to integrated and coordinated care resulting in excellent, efficient, and cost-effective patient care.

Do I need to apply for every position that I am interested in?

Yes, you must submit individual applications for each position you are interested in.

I am uncomfortable providing my social security number. Is this something that is required?

You must list your social security number on your application. We have a secure web site, and your social security number is only used after you are hired. It must be entered correctly because, if you are hired, we use it for your background check and for record keeping purposes post hire.

Will you conduct a background check and/or credit check on me?

We only conduct background checks for those individuals who have been offered a position. The FCRA Notice and Acknowledgment is your authorization for Valley to obtain information, to the extent permitted by law, regarding your background. It is not solely a release to conduct a credit check.

I clicked on the application link and nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?

Please change your browser settings to disable your pop-up blocker. Once you press “Click Here to Apply Online,” a new window should open. You must temporarily allow pop-ups in order to apply.

How do I know my application was successfully submitted?

You should receive an automated e-mail response immediately after successful completion of an application. You may also log into your account and select the tab “Application History” and review any applications that have been previously submitted.

How long does it take to complete the online application?

The online application takes approximately 30-45 minutes to complete. If you are not able to finish it in one sitting, you may save your progress and log back in at another time to complete it.

After I completed my application, I was prompted to an assessment test. How long does that take to complete?

For some of our openings, there is an assessment test that applicants are prompted to take right after the application is completed. The assessment test takes approximately 45 minutes to finish. The assessment test is separated into various sections, so if you are not able to complete it in one sitting, you may exit the assessment test and complete it another time. You will have a maximum of 5 days to complete the assessment test.

What is the assessment test and why do I need to complete it?

The assessment test is a part of Valley Health System’s recruitment process for some of our positions. It assists the Recruitment Team with selecting the most qualified candidate. For consistency, if an assessment test is assigned to a particular position it is important you invest the time to complete the assessment test. Individuals who do not take the assessment test will not be considered.

Can I check on the status of my application?

If your application was sent successfully, you should have received an automated e-mail response. Please be assured that our recruiters review each and every application. You will only be contacted for an interview in the event that you are a qualified candidate for the position to which you have applied.

Can I submit my resume for future consideration if I do not see a position posted that interests me?

Our web site only allows you to submit applications for current openings.

Can I visit Human Resources in person to offer my resume?

Due to overwhelming interest, the recruiters can only meet with qualified applicants that have been selected for an interview.

How does the recruitment process work?

Recruiters receive and review applications and then share the qualified candidates’ information with the hiring managers for each department. A collective decision is then made on who will be brought in for an interview.

How long does the process take?

The selection process may take several weeks. You can always check to see if the position you applied for is still available by checking our web site to see if the job is still posted.

Why have I not heard from a recruiter regarding my application? Has my resume been reviewed?

The recruiters review each and every application that has been submitted. If you have not heard from us, it means that your background is not the best match for the posted opening and you have not been selected for an interview.

Can someone review my resume and suggest jobs that might be good for me?

Please review the job descriptions on the job postings to see what education and experience is required or preferred.
